NMMS

The National Means — cum- Merit Scholarship Examination (NMMS) is conducted every year by Science Branch of Directorate of Education, Delhi usually in the month of November for the students studying in class VIII of Govt./Aided schools. Finally, It is a centrally sponsored scheme of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Govt. of India.

NMMS 2021

The students have to appear in the written entrance exam of NMMS 2021 scholarship to become eligible. Gujarat NMMS 2021 – State Examination Board, Gandhinagar has released the application form online at sebexam.org. NMMS 2021 Registration has been Started. The NMMS is commonly known as the National Means Cum Merit Scholarship.

NMMS Exam

NMMS Exam is provided by the MHRD, Government of India. The National Means — cum- Merit Scholarship Examination (NMMS Exam) is conducted every year by Science Branch of Directorate of Education, Delhi usually. The National Means cum Merit Scholarship Examination, also known as NMMS Scholarship Exam, was started in May 2008.

The NTS examination used for NMMS is considered too tough for a scheme whose prime objective is not ‘talent search’. And this is one of the reasons cited for low success rate of the students.

NMMS Exam 2021

The National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme. Students of Class 8 who score at least 50% (55% for reserved categories) are eligible to apply for the NMMS Exam 2020. National Means Cum-Merit Scholarship for 8th class students only. NMMS Scholarship Exam 2021 is a scholarship exam for meritorious students.

NMMS Exam Eligibility

The student studying in class VIII and must have secured 55% marks (for general category) or 50% marks (for reserve category i.e. SC/ST/PH) in class VII. The annual income of the parents of the student appearing in the examination should not exceed Rs. 1,50,000/-( Rs one lac fifty thousand only) from all sources.

NMMS Exam Eligibility Criteria

NMMS Exam General Eligibility Conditions

An awardee is eligible for the scholarship provided he/she:

  • Takes up studies in approved courses.
  • Maintains good conduct as certified by the Head of the College/Institution and continues his/her studies as a regular student in Government/Local Body/Government aided school.
  • Does not absent himself/herself without proper leave.
  • Takes up studies on a whole time basis.
  • Does not take up any job.
  • The awardee must join the next class/desired course within 3 months of the declaration of the result of the previous class/course.
  • Scholarship shall be deemed to be discontinued with any gap of one academic session in studies at any time due to any reason.

Examination fee: – No examination fee is charged for appearing in this examination.

NMMS Exam Hall Ticket 2021

NMMS Result

Once the students have appeared for the selection test, each State declares the list of students who have qualified the MAT and SAT with at least 40% marks in each test. In other words find below the conditions which are considered while selecting the final list of students for NMMS.

For selecting the students, the following conditions may apply:

  • Students must pass both the tests i.e. MAT and SAT with at least 40% marks in each. For the reserved category this cut off is 32% marks.
  • Parental income of the students should not be more than Rs. 1.50 lakh per annum from all sources.
  • At the time of selection for the award of scholarship the candidate must have scored at least 55% marks or equivalent grade in Class VIII examination. There will be 5 % relaxation for SC/ST.
  • Awardees should satisfy the eligibilities and the conditions mentioned in the scheme.

NMMS Scholarship Result 2020-21

However, students are considered eligible for scholarship on the basis of merit after the result of NMMS scholarship examination is declared. The government proposed to give 1 lac scholarships to the meritorious students whose parental income is not more than 1.5 lacs per annum. The students are given Rs 6000 per year or Rs 500 per month under the scheme which is deposited directly into the bank account opened in the name of the student.

NMMS Exam Pattern

The state governments conduct the examination for the scheme. For Delhi, it is done by the Directorate of Education, Science Branch. This National Talent Search (NTS) examination already being conducted in every state is used for this scheme. Only for the first exam conducted in August 2008 was there a separate exam. The students are tested on the basis of: (i) Mental Ability Test (MAT) (ii) Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

Type of Examination: –

The examination consists of two papers

1. Mental Ability Test (MAT)
2. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

Mental Ability Test:

Consists of 90 multiple-choice questions testing verbal and nonverbal meta-cognitive abilities like reasoning and critical thinking. The questions in the test may be on analogy, classification, numerical series, pattern perception, hidden figures etc.

Scholastic Aptitude Test

Consists of 90 multiple-choice questions covering subjects namely, science, social studies and mathematics as taught in classes VII and VIII. The examination is conducted on the basis of the guidelines received from the NCERT.

This consists of 8 subjects — Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, History, Geography, Civics, and Economics.
